Application Process

Students wishing to enroll in the program will complete an application packet and submit to the SMCPS Department of Curriculum and Instruction by March 19, 2010. Each application will be reviewed by an admissions team comprised of educators, administrators, and foundation members who will, in turn, make recommendations to the academy for accepting members into the program.   

At the secondary level, applicants will be interviewed by the admissions team. Candidates will be evaluated based on their past academic performance, dedication to advanced learning, and their desire to pursue STEM careers.

Considerations for Applicants may include:

 

  • Maryland School Assessment (MSA) scores
  • Percentile Ranking on MSA
  • OLSAT SAI Score
  • High School Assessments
  • County Benchmark Assessments
  • Report Card Grades/Grade Point Average
  • Participation in competitions and fairs
  • Application Essay - Parent and Student

Elementary for Grades 4 and 5 Application

Middle for Current 5th Grade STEM students only Application

Middle for Grades 6 through 8 (New students only) Application

High School Application requires Adobe Reader.

Applications due March 19, 2010.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance status by April 30, 2010. (If there are no openings in the grade level in which the student applies, applicants will be placed on a waiting list if they are eligible to be in the STEM Academy.)  All students must reapply to remain on the waiting list for the 2010-2011 school year.
