The Hiring Process

St. Mary's County Public Schools recognizes that the talent and commitment of our employees are our most valuable assets.  Our goal is to attract highly qualified individuals to St. Mary's County Public Schools and to employ the most qualified in each available position.

Your application is important to us.  We will give it prompt and fair attention.  We will screen it carefully in relation to those of other candidates using specific criteria.  The quality of your application and evidence of a strong work ethic are critical considerations.  Evidence of effective professional practice is weighted heavily in the review of applications for administrative, teaching and pupil services positions.

Because St. Mary's County Public Schools receives hundreds of Professional (teaching) applications each year, we are unable to respond to each and every one.  You will hear from us only if you are selected for an interview.  Calls and inquiries about the status of your Professional application will not increase your chances of employment.

Your Professional application will remain active during one school year.  Should you wish to be considered the following year, you must contact the Department of Human Resources.  We would appreciate it if you would let us know if your employment status changes and you no longer wish to be considered for the upcoming school year.
