New Teacher Workshops

New teacher induction begins with orientation sessions prior to the beginning of the school year. "Early Bird" sessions will be held August 12 and 13. Early Bird sessions for new special education teachers begin August 11.

The official beginning of Required Sessions begin on Monday, August 16. New Teacher Seminars will continue monthly.

"Early Bird" New Teacher Sessions
These sessions are designed to help you understand some of the programs and practices in St. Mary's County Public Schools, and to support your professional development. You can select from a variety of sessions, and be paid $20/hour for your participation (new teachers only).
These sessions will be held at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center,  24005 Point Lookout Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650

Required New Teacher Sessions
These sessions provide new educators to St. Mary's County an overview of the school system, as well as in-depth sessions on teaching expectations, the curriculum, and time with demonstration teachers. These sessions (unless otherwise noted) will be at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. A detailed schedule will be provided.

WELCOME COOKOUT

New educators will be paid a stipend of $23 per hour for professional development. Lunch will be provided on August 12 and 16. For more information contact the Dept. of Professional Development at 301-475-5511, ext. 133.

New Teacher Seminars 2010-2011
These required sessions are planned for every 2nd Wednesday of the month and will offer practical strategies for immediate application. These sessions will provide differentiated processes for elementary and secondary teachers. Sessions will provide time for discussion, problem solving, and learning.

  • Teachers who participate fully in all sessions and complete a reflection log will earn three (3) MSDE Continuing Professional Development credits that can be applied toward the renewal of your certificate.
  • Teachers may elect to be paid $23/hr per session for up to three sessions.
